My Story
A little history about my life and how I’ve combined my acting career with my love of Humanism
Hello, my name is Dominic Moore, and I am a Humanist Celebrant from Cork.
As an actor, I’ve had an association with RTE since 1992, as an actor and writer in programmes like The Morbegs (remember them? 😊) and The Rimini Riddle. Career highlights of my stage career include working with the Gare St Lazare Ireland, as Pozzo in their acclaimed production of Waiting for Godot, touring to Shanghai and New York. I also regularly perform my one-man show Mr Punch. During the pandemic, I produced video content for several clients in Cork, with my children’s puppet character Basher Bacon conducting video book reviews for young children all over Munster. If you’re interested in what I look and sound like, have a look at me conducting a memorial service here or listen to some of my voiceover work here. I also have a full acting CV available to download here.
I love my day job as a Digital Officer in the Butter Museum in Shandon. I’m responsible for the design and upkeep of our website, our social media and the digitising of our artefact collections. I work regularly with University College Cork, creating digital exhibitions and giving talks to students of the Digital Humanities.
As a Humanist, I’m the Convenor of the Cork Humanists here in the Second City. It’s been my honour to oversee projects that we’ve carried out with a fine bunch of people such as providing picnics to our less fortunate brothers and sisters in Direct Provision and Ukrainian Children Displaced by War. This year, I was honoured to be appointed to the Board of Directors of the Humanist Association of Ireland (HAI) and also to step in as editor of the HAI digital magazine, Being Human.
As a Humanist Celebrant, being part of your special day and fulfilling the trust that you have put in me in making it special, makes what I do worthwhile.
For the future, I believe more and more people will connect with Humanism as an ethical life choice. At the end of the day, we humans are responsible for the upkeep of the planet where we live, and for looking out for our fellow bothers and sisters who live with us on it.
